Piano and guitar are said to be a difficult combination of instruments - both stringed, similar in sound coloration and, for this reason, awkward to combine in an interesting and fascinating way.
Prejudices arise quickly. They are easily recognisable, seldom questioned, spread rapidly and are eventually accepted as the truth.
It is extremely interesting however to look below the surface of such misconceptions and the solving of difficult problems is a source of great enjoyment.

Dieter Köhnlein and I have been working on this particular problem for the past 15 years and have already offered two possible solutions with our CD's "By the way" and "in und um C". Our latest offering, "Stringed together" attempts to further develop the many facets of our different characters in conjunction with the swing of our stringed instruments in the hope that this will qualify the above mentioned prejudice a little.

It should be mentioned that all the tracks on this CD have been produced without overdubbing, as listening to some numbers may give a different impression. (I occasionally play guitar and percussion simultaneously.) The listener should also be aware that the differences in sound between the numbers is a result of the use for this CD of studio recordings (tracks 1,2,3,5,7,8,10) and live recordings (4,6,9,11).

My main hope is, however, that the listener will forget anything written above, find some enjoyment in our music, lose himself for a while in the music of two people "Strung together" and perhaps discover something worthwhile and perhaps even new in our music.

press:

“Once, critics certified the duo as ’world-class’ even in their earlier recordings and this time both artists have produced a little masterpiece as well.”
Oliver Hochkeppel, Süddeutsche Zeitung

“It goes without saying that Uwe Kropinski at the guitar and Dieter Koehnlein at the piano dispose of a huge repertoire and almost unbelievable technical and artistic skills.”
Carina Prange, Jazzdimensions
