| "Three
Faces {at least}": The title mirrors the content. Three faces of
a musical orientation, three facets of handling an instrument or also,
quite literally, three faces of a musician–in this way one could
understand the name of this CD. And indeed three fundamentals always
reappear–sometimes alone and sometimes in combination–in the 10
pieces of this CD: Face one. Energy Play, which is based on virtuosity and structural density. Face two. Lyrical Play, culture of playing ballads, romantic moods. Face three. Free Improvisation (without any compositional diction). And then there still is the addition "at least", with which Koehnlein wants to energize the listener to look for further "faces" in his playing. Roland Spiegel (shortened) press:
"All of this has unquestionably international class and places
Dieter Koehnlein, regarding innovational strength and pianistical
virtuosity, into the class of piano stars such as Keith Jarrett or
Thelonious Monk. |
